I find it interesting to see how things change over the years. Most changes are gradual and not noticed in every day activities. I thought it would be interesting to take some of my old photos and go back to the same place today and photograph the same view. I will be adding to this collection as time permits. I hope you enjoy them. And please feel free to add some of your own scenes.

Glad u posted this topic, Butch. I was just going to start a new thread w/ a question about b/4 and after. Back in the old days, my back yard had a creek run thru it. It is running again today. How can I find old maps to check this out? I am not sure how far back to go. Could someone please advise?

I am really not sure what I am asking for. I was told by my elderly neighbor, that there used to be a creek in my back yard. With all this rain u can see where it would have run, as it is almost running now. It has gone down since I got up this am. Isn't there some sort of land map from the "old days" Does that help Butch?

I have topographical maps of the area. I can check them to see if they show old creek beds. It's unusual that if there was a creek there once, that it is no longer there unless it was diverted to prevent a flood plain. This happens when new housing goes up in an area that is prone to flooding.

Wow, what an amazing improvement in that vantage of the Vermilion River! Apart from our despair over losing beautiful architecture, it's so good to see the improvements we do have in our town.

Butch, isn't the second picture of S. Monroe St.? The old Murphy's parking lot?
I thought the Heenan Hardware was on the same corner/alley, but on S. Vermillion St.? A block east of this empty lot.

Butch, isn't the second picture of S. Monroe St.? The old Murphy's parking lot? Yes, the second picture is S. Monroe St., the site of the old Granada Theater that burned in 1963, as shown in the first picture. I thought the Heenan Hardware was on the same corner/alley, but on S. Vermillion St.? A block east of this empty lot. Williams Hardware was on S. Vermillion St. Heenan's Dept. Store was on the NW corner of Main & Park St.
