Dave, These photos were taken at the intersection of Kent & Sterling streets, looking northwest. The train wreck photo is of 2 engines that collided at the crossing of the Chicago & Alton and the CB&Q Railroads.

Got my handy dandy Map 'o Streator which is old enough to show all of the railroads before they were removed. Wasn't there a switching tower there later on in that area to handle the intersections of the NYC,Wabash both C.B & Q lines (Aurora & Zearing) & C&A? (again two lines - East to Dwight & West to Wenona/Lacon & Pekin Jct.) -Dave

Here is a photo of the old C.B & Q station I took last Summer. It would be about a block away from the 1913 accident photo. -Dave

My goodness! Those two pictures were taken only about one pace away (and about 100 years later.) -Dave

Ok, so is the CB&Q station that is standing today the old one remodeled? Or is it a completely new building built later? If it was rebuilt, do you know when that happened?

Good question mom3. I believe it is the same building, remodeled, but I am not 100% sure. I will try to find out.

The building that it standing today looks a lot bigger. Also it is made of brick & several dormers have been added. Today's building also has a tile roof & the doors & windows do not match up to those of the older building. Hers is a side view of the old C.B. & Q station. The vacant lot was where the Columbia Hotel was at. I remember across the street from the Columbia was the REA office & warehouse. -Dave

I don't have a "now" picture, but here's a "then", of Main & Otter Creek, where Casey's now stands.

The CB&Q depot was rebuilt starting on June 1,1930. The new station and freight house were opened and in service on Oct 11,1930.
