In 1932 Piggly Wiggly was at 322 E. Main St. That would have been right downtown, probably no big parking lot. In 1959 Piggly Wiggly had 2 locations in Streator, 806 North Bloomington and 1110 East Main St. The store on East Main is probably the one with the parking lot.

What's the story with the building at 322 E. Main? It's been empty for so long I can't remember anything ever being there. Do you have any old pics?

The Piggly Wiiggly on East Main was the first "modern" supermarket: parking lot next to the store. I used to work in the A and P in the Heenan Building. Carryouts could be up to several blocks away. Because I got along with the check out girls, I always got the good carryouts to the taverns and clubs down town. I usually got a glass of beer as a tip.

I am pretty sure that the dealership belonged to the Solon Bros. They decide to split up & one brother took the dealership & the other took the auto Ins. part of the business (Lenard Solon). He later ran an insurance agency by the old Cokey -Cola Plant on N. Bloomington near Highland Park. I was able to meet & speak w/ Mrs. Solon several years ago. She & her daughter filled me in on this skinny.

The Piggly Wiggly on N. Bloomington St. became a Pizza place in the early 60's. Today it is a laundromat. I think I am wrong. The Piggly Wiggly is where the Family Dollar Store is now. OOORRRRRR It could have been the A&P. Duh.
