I think my Dad went to Plumb School in the 1930's. Is this school still in use and are there any pics available?

I was by there yesterday. My brother & sister went there, but I was too young. I went to Greeley instead. The school has been torn down & a multi-family one story residence has been built there. There are no more railroad tracks behind the school location. My brother & his buddies would get on a garage nearby & jump on to the railroad cars. After it closed. (mid to late 50s?) it was used as an apartment house. Over the years it caught fire several times & finally had to be torn down. John can provide you with the dates & maybe a photo or two. I do have one picture, but I don't have the ability or desire to buy a scanner that could convert it to a digital picture to post here.

What a beautiful building! Do you know where it was located and what year it closed?

This school was located on the NE corner of Sterling and Livingston Streets. It closed sometime in the early 60s. It was then used as a shop for a heating and electrical contractor. Then by 1970 it was turned into apartments. It later burned and was destroyed. The building was demolished and a new, single story apartment building was built on the site.

I went there from 1959-1961, K-2nd grade, so it would have been closed, as a school after that. I didn't move back to Streator until about 1966, so I don't know when it happened, as being young and not living near-by ....

I do believe your graduated a few years ahead of me. They may have changed the boundaries? I lived about a blk. S & E of the school, on Lundy St.

I lived at Lundy & Vermillion Blue. We moved in 1955. I would have started kindergarten there. I ended up @ Greeley instead.
