Are there folks who research the newspaper archives at Times Press? I am searching for my Grandma's Obit and any info on a tennis City Championship from the 1940's. How would you suggest I go about any type of research into Streator Geneology? Stephanie Daniel Bunton

I went to the library to research my grandma's obit. If you know the date of her death, they have the old papers on microfish (I think that's what it's called). I made a copy of her obit for myself.

I live in St Louis but am guessing that I should contact the library or Historical Society. I wasn't even sure if the archives were available online. I've enjoyed going through all the topics and posts to give me a charming viewpoint of life in Streator as my Dad and Grandparents probably saw it...

Our library does not have a website. If you have any family left in Streator, maybe they would be willing to do your research. Our Historical Society is worth the drive to visit.

Joan Johnson, at the Historical Society, has an incredible knowledge of Streator history as well as LaSalle County history. She is the modern day version of Lyle Yeck and Lyle Kennedy. Over the years, she has sent me numerous old articles about my family: my ggggrandmother's obit, an account of how my great grandfather was killed in a farm accident, etc.
