I just came across this photo tonight and had to share it! I don't have a date for it, and hoping someone can help. It is an old photo of the Babuska's from this Church. My great grandmother, Mary (Sholtis) Rubis married to Andrew Rubis were active members. Her mother Mary (Marco) Sholtis also was an early founder of the church. I've blown the photo up, but can't depect any one paticular. Has anyone seen this photo? I'd love to know who these lady's were. Would anyone know of a listing who is who? I sure would like to know if my relatives are in this photo. I have only one photo of Mary Marco, and one of Mary and Andrew Rubis with my mother as a little girl. Still can't find them, if they are even in the photo. Sorry about the size of the photo's. Still trying to work with Photo Bucket....

I recognize my grandmother, we called her Baba. She is the 7th one from the left standing in the back row. Her name is Anna Kerestes. We attended the Christmas Eve service here on this past Christmas 12/24/2010. It was a wonderful service. wind2.home.mchsi.com/20101224 06a.jpg[/img]

I was glad to hear that your grandmother Anna Kerestes was in this photo! Would you know an approximate year the photo might have been taken? I know of many Kerestes families that have attended Holy Trinity over the years. My Kerestes was an avid and very good organ player. Perhaps I can get this photo around to the parishioners at Trinity too. I'd sure like to know if my g.great grandmother is in the photo. I was told that there is a photo hanging in the tiny church. I don't know if its this particular photo, but will also check that out.

Also with the old photo of the Ba-Ba's at the Old Number Three Lutheran Church on the South end of town here in Streator, was a second photo given to me. It appeared to have been when the Church moved location to a larger Church on Illinois Street. The group appear to be younger. Does anyone recognize the individual's? Perhaps taken in the early 40's, not sure.

I was told someone thought the 15th young man in back row, left to right might be Ed Ferko. Also going left to right, front row, 7th person with suspenders is Perry Repko, below him is Tommy Zippi kneeling, next to him kneeling is George Shotick. next to him kneeling is Elmer Kochis,.
Behind the boys kneeling, young man in suit coat is a Klima. Going from right to left bottom row is Ed Shotick, then Andy Estovonik, Pete Chorba and Danny Drapp.
Hope to get all the names of the individuals on this Illinois Street Photo of the Lutheran Church. I don't know how to circle photos and name, sorry. ;-( Wish I did. thanks for the help!

Came across this photo. I don't know if its related to any of the men at the Old Number 3 Church. It appears to be a lodge of some sort. Below are written words in Slovak. They read: Spolok straz na slone cislo 52 slov ev Jednoty Streator, Illinois. The photo belonged to, A. Fedor I hope to get the Slovak words translated soon. Meanwhile anyone have a clue about this photo? What group of men are here? Is it a lodge or religious group?

I noticed the men in this photo all wearing a ribbon. It made me think of the Slovak woman wearing their ribbons, we spoke about in a previous topic. Then I also found that a g.g. grandfather of mine, stated in his obituary that he was a member of the Slavish Lutheran Church (Old Number 3) and the Slavish Lutheran Society. Could these men in the above photo belong to that Society? My relative it states in the obituary (John Ruis who had his back broken in a mine at Cherry died from the results of injuries then sustained. He was a member of the Slavish Lutheran society and carried $1,000 insurance. Maybe having the opportunity of such money was because he was in the Slavish Society. That kind of money had to have been unspeakable back then. John was 38 years old and left his wife and four very young children. Below is the ribbon from the womans society.......

Jednota is a Slovak society. I still get the newspaper from there. My great grandfather was Andrew Fedor.

It was good to know something about the photo. Do you know if Andrew Fedor is in that photo? Did Andrew attended the Old Number 3 Slovak Church at the south end of town? And who did Andrew Marry (maiden name)?

The second row from the front, the 4th man from the left appears to be either my grandfather or great grandfather. I am not positive, but in comparing it to old family photos it sure looks like him. His name is John Kerestes. Also, my mother would have been able to translate the Slovak writing if she were still with us. She used to scold us kids in Slovak! She called us something that we never knew what it meant except that she was mad at us!
