Since this week has been, cold, rainy and possible miserable for some i thought I would brighten things up with some Friday Fun. A little background. Recently I attended a stamp show…yes a stamp show. Anyways, nobody had exactly what I was looking for. As I had driven several miles to get there I didn't want this to be a waste of a trip. So, since they had several thousands of postcards to look at curiosity got the best of me. to my surprise this is what I came up with. 400 blk of main street. main st from lipton tea. you can distinctly see community liquors where kathys is now, cali's, and mata's cafe where it looks as tho a Fasanos pie panel truck is making a delivery or just stopping in for lunch canale real estate now where walgreens is located corner of monroe and bridge now first united methodist. this church burned down if i recall in the 30's first united methodist church YMCA located on monroe and bridge where streator home bld and loan is now Grace church (recently up for auction) located on corner of monroe and main. Some of you I know will appreciate these as much as me. A couple of these postcards are 100yrs old! if you would like some more info on these please pm me. i'll do my best to fill you in about them.

Here is the 100 block of East Main in the late 30s. Notice Kroger right on the corner of Main & Bloomington.

I love the old street signs and lights. Does anyone else still remember the "call boxes" that stood on the corners like the one in front of Krogers? I can remember when the police walked the beat downtown, and every so often I would see one of them use the call box.
