Later this small add on building became my parents frist home. I believe the address would have been 1105 Bronson Street. The tavernwould have been 1107. Now the lot is empty. would have been 1107. Now the lot is empty.

Looking over an old abstract deed (of titles to Lot 32 in block 14 in Painters addition) It is mentioned that the original owner of the Merchandise store owned in 1927-1957 by Julia and Eli Sr. Koral was owned by an Isaac Painter, deceased. It also mentions a Uriah S. Painter. Does anyone know who these men are? The Koral merchandise store became Salata's tavern. at 1014 Johnson Street in Painters Addition. But how did Painter Addition get its name? And who are the men, Isaac and Uriah S. Painter? Perhaps the area was named after them? Does anyone know? There is also a Painter Street in that area. Interesting....

Koral merchandise store 1014 Johnson st., the home attached to the tavern 1012 Johnson St. and the small building attached to the tavern were all sold at an auction in 1957. I still have the piece from the paper regarding the action. The tavern was then resold by a buyer and moved! It was moved to 407 Iowa Street where it was turned into a home. It still stands today. It certainly doesn't look like the Koral tavern I have a photo of.

This a a photo of the Koral tavern. The two men standing outside the tavern I think are Mike Vanko, and Danny Gulo. You can correct me otherwise. To the right of the tavern, attached was an ice cream shop, later it became my parents first home. To the far left you can see the Koral merchandise store. Now Geno's Tavern on the corner of Bronson and Johnson Street.

Heres a photo of the inside of the Koral Tavern on Bronson Street which is no longer there. It is my grandfather, Eli Andrew Koral next to the old jute box. And on the back bar is my sister. Look at the old Stag sign! I had always wondered what happened to the back bar when the tavern was sold. .....

These are my family members (all Russian's) My grandfather Eli Andrew Koral is standing on the far right. What is interesting about this photo is the building behind them. Or what you can see of it! Its no longer there. That was the old Tutko Store on the corner of Johnson and Bronson.

Was the Tutko store on the NE corner? They were my cousins. What wonderful pictures! I remember that little building behind the tavern. When I first moved out here, it was used for voting.

The Tutkos store was on the south east corner. Sefesys store was on the north east. The little building nest to the Koral tavern from what I was told was an ice cream parlor then my parents first home for about 5 years. It had one bedroom, one small tiny living room and small kitchen. There were my parents, my older sister and me. Everything I know is from stories handed down. Just today I was told a good one. Seems like everyone has those old memories they want to tell. I was in Bruce township, trying to get an idea of how old the Koral tavern was. I happened to speak to Mr. Arroyo. He told me that when he was a youngster and lived in Painters addition, on Johnson Street, that he and a few of the neighbor hood boys would hang out in front of the Koral tavern. (Back in those days, everyone was dirt poor, he mentioned.) So he tells, Mr Koral would come out, and tell the boys he didn't want them hanging around outside, to skedaddle and not come back. In the same breath however he would hand them a big plate of fish, and Fry's. He also would leave 2 empty pop bottles on the tavern steps for them. They intern would take the pop bottles to the store next door to Mrs. Koral to turn in for a couples cents! Well the youngsters would turn up, week after week, and each week there would be a plate of food, and two more pop bottles! And Mr. Koral always telling the boys to skedaddle. Do you know what happened to the War memorial that was out front of the Tutkos store? My aunt told me that on the memorial was a list of soldiers who died in the war from Painters addition.

I just found a photo with Tutkos store on Johnson Street. It is to the back of my Uncle George Yacko. The interesting thing about this photo is that you can see what the War memorial looked liked! I had wondered what it looked like. It not the best view, but it will give you an idea. Now to find out what ever happened to it. I'd certainly would like to see the names on it, wouldn't you?

Here's a photo of two of the painter hood characters. They hung out at the Koral Tavern. I've been doing some digging looking for some of them, from the "old" names mentioned from the Painters Addition neighborhood. Enjoy! The first is Margret (Kmetz) and William Hunter with "Pipe Salata." This second photo is a man called "Paddlefoot." What was his real name? How did the name Paddlefoot, end up with him?

This is a photo of the Koral tavern with three men standing on the steps. Does anyone know who they are? They were found in some of my father's and grandfather's old tavern photos. Many of whom we don't know.

Great photos of a great part of town. I always go to Omars/Skibas and Salatas when I am in town, and I always meet someone who knows someone I know. There were some great people who came out of that corner of town.
