Is there a map around of Streator that shows where all of the railroads & spurs were at? I have already hit up the Museum a few years ago. The best I can do is an old Hart's Realty map that I got in the 90's. Thanks. -Dave

Is there a certain railroad line you are interested in. I have a lot of old maps, but they are much too large to copy.

BTW I was looking at one of my old maps & noticed that the NYC spur that joined the NYC to Thatchers continued due east to join the old Santa Fe Main line as it left town. I saw where the was a RR ROW in that area, but I didn't know where they went until I checked the map. Maybe I already have the best available...... -Dave.

Dave, that's not a NYC spur. That is a Burlington spur. The CB&Q had a spur that went past Thatchers and connected with the Santa Fe just east of Streator on the curve. The NYC paralleled the CB&Q til the NYC curved to the west behind Northlawn School.

I gotta find my maps. I thought that the NYC also had a spur to Owens from the north. Was that also CB&Q? Because they had a spur to Owens from the south that ran behind Greeley school.

Dave, all 3 spurs going into Owens were off of the Burlington line. The 2 north ones and the one going in from the west along LaRue St. But like I said, the NYC ran parallel to the Burlington so on some maps it may look like one and the same line.

Your right about the spur being only Burlinton. I didn't see two spurs @ the north end just one. Must be the overgrowth back there is hiding the second one.

A while back someone mentioned the Kankakee & Seneca Railroad but I never did see a reply. Does anyone know anything about it? I've been looking for some of their old bridges and with the help of another fan, I have seen 5-6 of them. Anyone here interested? kkksenfan

In 1898 it was a part of the "BIG FOUR" Cincinnati, Cleveland, Chicago and St Louis Railroad. It was bought by the NYC. See the map I posted below.

This is a good place to find turn of the centruy railroads in Illinois. memory.loc.gov/ammem/gmdhtml/rrhtml/rrhome.html#1) click on "geographical location" #2 click on the state of Illinois on the map to bring up Illinois maps. #3) USE MAP#6

I'd like to see them. kkksenfan They are moving a depot in Seneca & I wanted to see if it was a Rock Island or NCY depot. I could not tell. But then I went to google satellite map & saw that part of the old NYC is still in use for an industrial spur there. I then was able to follow the former NYC ROW about 80% to Kankakee. -Dave
