Joan,
I don't know which junk yard you have in mind. The one I mentioned must have been on a hill on the other side of the river because I could see from my front yard in the winter. (600 Block) It was near a large barn referred to in our neighborhood as the "mule barn."

I just have to change my mine set....I keep thinking on the north side of Main street. I can't place the one on the south...but I am not familiar with that area. I used to have a difficult time finding the dry cleaners on Riverside....now I can't even think of their name...the one that had the tree service in town.

Thanks John,
We used their tree service for years. They were the only ones willing to cut down our weeping willow tree. Had one fellow drive by, slow down, and never return my call. I did not realize how dangerous it was to cut a weeping willow tree down. Apparently, the branches will spring back when cut. They couldn't cut it all the way, just back to about 30 feet. Someone gave my Mother a small branch, she didn't know which way to plant it, so she put it in sideways, guess that is why the trunk got so big.

crazytown, There is only one entrance to the canoe launch on Main St. It is across 18 from the entrance to Westgate Plaza. It is the same entrance that led to the Brothers Auto Wreckers junk yard. Also in that same location was Chuck's Green Topper Tavern.

It came out on the same street, it just curved more to the south and went through where that little park and shelter is now.

That is a pretty amazing picture. In addition to the bridge location, there are only two houses on Bridge St. Every one else was smart enough to not build in a flood plain.

The house on the left (when you are looking at the picture) is still there today. Right? If it is, I wonder when that house was built. That's amazing.

It is still there. They were sandbagging near it during the flood. The levee held & Westgate was saved.
