I believe the "Ma" Swanson attempted to teach me typing @ SHS. If you have read my posts for very long, you will notice that I did not do so good. -Dave

Suzie Szabo? ?? That woman was sooooo MEAN. I can't imagine her inspiring anyone. I don't ever recall seeing a smile cross her face.

Here is an old Streator Grade School Bus that I stumbled upon yesterday in my never ending search of yesteryear. Anyone remember riding this bus? The bus number is hard to make out. It is either a 3 or 13 I believe.

I would guess it in the 1950s or early 60s.

I never had to ride the bus, we walked to school, but where in the world did you come across this Butch?

Enough of the easy questions Butch has posed about various Streator sites. This one is a little harder: "What is the significance of the site depicted below?"

This is the pond that is out north on route 23 just north of the Pines. The pond was created when they dug out dirt to use for the roadbed of the new bridge and highway across Otter Creek. The new roadway makes a jog to the west. The old roadway and bridge were just to the east of the new one.
itsme, a friend of mine owns a salvage yard over by LaSalle. I was over there Saturday looking at the old vehicles and found a couple of old Streator School busses.

I started riding the bus in 1960 when we moved out north near Golf Rd. & Oakley Ave. I was too busy getting beat up to notice the bus model. However, this does NOT look like any one I had to ride. That curved back is hard to place & easy to remember. Butch. They used to have all of the old Streator City buses @ lagori's junk yard on Oakley Ave near Phil's Tavern. (and just east of the old skating rink.) -Dave

Is that the site of the Heenanville School?

Is that the site of the Heenanville School? The photo shows where the first school in Bruce Township was built around 1840. The second school (the East Mackey School) was at the southwest corner of #23 and Richards Road. The Heenanville, or West Mackey, School was the third school in the township. It was the last one-room school house in the county; it closed in 1962.

Old Dessie Richey's room was at the top right.

I had Dessie Richey as a substitute teacher on several occasions at Northlawn. She lived in the 200 block of South Park Street, close to Garfield School.
