Do you know when the filling station closed? I don't quite remember that bldg. there, but as a young child, we don't pay that much attention to some things. The filling station was last operated by Howard Lopeman. He closed it when the building, which was owned by Helen Pickworth, was sold to Dale Wurmnest in the late 70s, who used it as a detail shop for his auto dealership. Thank You John. The earlier years of the rest. was when I lived south of Streator and went to Woodland. That would explain it. I don't remember going too far north of Main St. back then, as all the stores WERE on Main St. then

You're right galsal. Sometime between 1959 and 1961 it changed from Maid-Rite to Iva's. Then in the mid 60s it was gone. What? Greek Angelos sold the place?

What year was this taken, John? I was living in Kansas when our city fathers changed the main streets to one-way. My mother warned me about them when I was moving home.

I don't have an exact date on this photo, but it must have been the early 70s judging from the gas prices and the vehicles pictured. Gasoline first hit the 50 cent a gallon price in the early 70s.

I met the family, after it closed. Later their son, Jim moved back from Az., about 1973 or so and re-opened it. He also started a car painting garage, on the east side, with his uncle Jack doing the body work.
