I am working on collecting old Streator Fire Department photos for a possible book. It will be published by the same company which published the book Images of LaSalle County and similar titles. I would need 120-130 photos for the book. I am working with Kurt Snow at the FD to compile a history of the dept and this seemed to grow out of that project. If anyone has any photos that they would like to contribute please let me know. I am looking for picts from anywhere between 1800's to 1980. Thanks in advance. HistoryMajor

I can't help......but good luck. I do have some pictures just as the new fire station was being completed, just a month or so before they moved in. -Dave

I don't know if the following comments relate to old fire photos, but they do relate to old Streator photos. My old law firm represented over 100 school districts and we had an annual party for them at the Mid Day Club in the First National Bank building in Chicago. One year, I was talking to a guy whose wife was on one of the Kankakee school boards. He told me that his wife was from Streator, and that he had a large number of 19th century Streator photos. He owns a music store in Kankakee and he gave him his card and promised me that he would give me a disk with the photos. I never followed up, and lost the guy's card.
I don't know if any of you have any contacts in Kankakee, but it would be worth pursuing.
I contacted a woman who lives in Kankakee who I have known since high school, but she was no help. Last year, I plowed through a list of music stores in Kankakee and wrote to a couple of them. I got no response.

I probably should just e-mail the partner who handled Kankakee's account, but I am not sure which one it was.

HistoryMajor NOW do you want documentation and also information of when my Grand Father was killed along with Marx in the Kennedy fire then too as well ? My dad was the designated City Photographer (actually I think he just volunteered for the job) and did go into the Williams Hardware building right after the fact......... and took extensive pictures of that catastrophe..... when no one else would go in there either. Also........ I do remember him flying up to the Granada Theatre to photograph that place burning as well. I so remember that one since I was little and terrified that he went there as this was only a few blocks here from our house. I remember that when he came home after that he told us all that the movie "THE BIRDS" was still playing on the big screen. .... and melting!!! Those are only a few that I do remember here.... perhaps we should talk then ..... ey......................... Kay

A few days ^^^ ok, I give up then, where oh where are you............ Kay I am in town staying at the only motel in town. I almost knocked on your door, but figured that you might think that I was a Bible salesman. I stopped into Omars, but there was nobody there that I knew. I went down the street and met a buddy at the bar formerly known as Salatas. (I got that from Prince) I am going to be at Teke's on Friday at 5:00.

I spent a couple of hours at the Historical Society yesterday talking with the little girl who used to be my next door neighbor. She has grown up, and now runs the museum.
I told her about all of John's great photos, and suggested that she try to get copies of some of his photos. She remembered the article he wrote for the Dispatch several years ago. I also told her that I know someone in town who has Andy Bakalar's old rig from his circus days. We also talked about the Barr House. I will have to go back to the museum; I love that place.
